What Makes God Smile [July 18, 2010] Sermon Notes Romans 8:29 (TLB) For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him--and all along he knew who would--should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.
1. WHEN WE INCLUDE OTHERS Matthew 18:1-5 (TLB) 1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus to ask which of them would be greatest in the

2. WHEN WE SERVE Mark 10:41-45 (TLB) 41 When the other disciples discovered what James and John had asked, they were very indignant. 42 So Jesus called them to him and said, "As you know, the kings and great men of the earth lord it over the people; 43 but among you it is different. Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant. 44 And whoever wants to be greatest of all must be the slave of all. 45 For even I, the Messiah, am not here to be served, but to help others, and to give my life as a ransom for many." Matthew 23:11 (TLB) "The more lowly your service to others, the greater you are. To be the greatest, be a servant.
3. WHEN OUR ATTITUDE IS OTHERS FIRST Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
Matthew 20:28 (TLB) Your attitude must be like my own, for I, the Messiah, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many."
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. Philippians 2:2-9 (NIV) 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
Colossians 1:3-6 (NIV) 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints-- 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel 6 that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. |
