Sermon Notes

Romans 8:29 (TLB) For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him--and all along he knew who would--should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.

1.  WHEN WE INCLUDE OTHERS

Matthew 18:1-5 (TLB) 1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus to ask which of them would be greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven! 2 Jesus called a small child over to him and set the little fellow down among them, 3 and said, "Unless you turn to God from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 Therefore anyone who humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5 And any of you who welcomes a little child like this because you are mine is welcoming me and caring for me.

 2.  WHEN WE SERVE

Mark 10:41-45 (TLB) 41 When the other disciples discovered what James and John had asked, they were very indignant. 42 So Jesus called them to him and said, "As you know, the kings and great men of the earth lord it over the people; 43 but among you it is different. Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant. 44 And whoever wants to be greatest of all must be the slave of all. 45 For even I, the Messiah, am not here to be served, but to help others, and to give my life as a ransom for many."

Matthew 23:11 (TLB) "The more lowly your service to others, the greater you are. To be the greatest, be a servant.

3. WHEN OUR ATTITUDE IS OTHERS FIRST

Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

Matthew 20:28 (TLB) Your attitude must be like my own, for I, the Messiah, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many."

1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

Philippians 2:2-9 (NIV) 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

Colossians 1:3-6 (NIV) 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints-- 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel 6 that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth.

Revelation 4:11 NLT “You (God) created everything, and it is for Your pleasure that they exist and were created!

Psalm 149:4 GN “The Lord takes pleasure in His people.”

1 Timothy 4:6b-8a (Phillips) Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. Bodily fitness has a certain value, but spiritual fitness is essential both for this present life and for the life to come.”

1 Samuel 17:39 (AMP) 39 “And David girded his sword over his armor. Then he tried to go, but could not, for he was not used to it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them. And David took them off.”
